Population  120,000 in China (2007). About 50% monolingual. Population total all countries: 120,200.
Region  Southeast Yunnan Province, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Wenshan County, Matang, Dehou, Laohuilong, Panzhihua, and Kaihua townships; Yanshan County, Pingyuan Township; Guangnan County, Zhulin Township; Maguan, and Malipo (western edge) counties. Also in Viet Nam.

Alternate names   Bu Dai, Kau Ndae, Khaau Daai, Thu Lao, Tu, Tuliao, Tuzu, Wen-Ma Southern Zhuang
Dialects  Most similar language is Nong Zhuang [zhn]. Quite different from most other Southern Zhuang (Central Tai). Lexical similarity: 70% among Nong, Yang [zyg], Yongnan [zyn], Zuojiang [zzj], and Dai [zhd], 65% with Yongbei Zhuang [zyb].

A member of macrolanguage Zhuang [zha] (China).
Language use  Vigorous in rural areas. Home. All ages in rural areas wherever L1 is dominant, but only the elders in ethnically mixed areas. Also use Mandarin Chinese [cmn].
Comments  Classified as Zhuang nationality. Also known in Chinese as Zhuangyu Nanbu Fangyan Wen-Ma Tuyu, the Wen-Ma vernacular of the southern dialect of Zhuang. Agriculturalists: rice; animal husbandry. Traditional religion, Daoist.
