Region  Pwani region, Bagamoyo District; Tanga region northeast, Maasai Steppe.

Dialects  Lexical similarity: 83% with Ngulu [ngp], 75% with Bondei [bou], 68% with Shambala [ksb], 70% with Doe [doe], 62% with Kwere [cwe].
Classification  Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, Benue-Congo, Bantoid, Southern, Narrow Bantu, Central, G, Zigula-Zaramo (G.30)
Language use  Some also use a nonstandard, ‘street’ Swahili.
Language development  Bible portions: 1906–2008.
Writing system  Latin script.
Comments  It has been influenced linguistically by Doe and Kwere, and has influenced them. May be the same as Mushungulu [xma] in Somalia. Agriculturalists: sorghum, maize, beans, yams, manioc, pumpkins, cucumbers, sesame, peanuts, tobacco, hemp, castor, coconuts; animal husbandry: cattle, goats, sheep, donkeys, poultry; hunters; fishermen; wage laborers; traders. Muslim, Christian.
