Population  17,000 in Myanmar (1994). Population total all countries: 20,000.
Region  Chin state, Thantlang Township. Also in India.
Alternate names   Zophei, Zoptei
Dialects  Lower Zyphe, Upper Zyphe. Similar to Mara Chin [mrh]. Myanmar and India varieties reportedly mutually intelligible.
Classification  Sino-Tibetan, Tibeto-Burman, Kuki-Chin-Naga, Kuki-Chin, Central
Language use  Also use Haka Chin [cnh], Mizo [lus], or Chin Mara [mrh] depending on location.
Writing system  Latin script.
Comments  About 1,000 reportedly migrated to Malyasia for work.
