SIL Language Freeware

Freeware CD-ROMsThe SIL Language Freeware CD-ROMs contain products that are recommended for language projects worldwide.

Many SIL language software products, previously only available as purchased software are now available for downloading and are freely distributable. The CD-ROM image files are very large so users have the option of purchasing the CD-ROM media.

All dependent software is on the CD-ROM image and will be loaded if needed by the master installer. Individual product downloads do not always include the dependent software.

Terms of Use

The software contained on the SIL Freeware disks is copyrighted by SIL and is now freely distributable. By using these files, you agree to comply with the terms in the SIL Language Freeware End User License Agreement. This license is granted to the user at no cost, so free technical support is not available from SIL.

SIL Language Freeware files are contained on two disks.

Software bundles

The software is typically provided in an archive format to reduce download times. On these CD-ROMs, all zipped files are unpacked so users do not have to have the archive utility. However, some of the Mac and Linux archives are in the compressed format, since the relevant archiving tools are standard on those platforms. Similarly, self-extracting archives (.exe) for the Windows platform are not unpacked.
