Regarding:
Alternate Names
ISO 639-3:
kwk

hi there are some changes that need to be made to this page. The language this page is referring is in fact called Kwakwala not Kwakiutl. The name of the nation that speak this language is Kwakwaka'wakw meaning the "Kwakwala speaking peoples". There are 5 dialects of this language. There is Nakwala which is spoken by the Gwasala and Nakwakdak tribes. There is Gutsala which is spoken by the 4 tribes of the Guskimukw. There is Tlatlasikwala, which is spoken by the Tlatlasikwala (i belive this dialect is dead). There is Likwala which is spoken by the Likwakdak. And there is Kwakwala which is spoken by all 10 or so other tribes of the Kwakwaka'wakw. i can provide more details on this language or about myself if needed.

Editorial Action

We have changed the primary name for [kwk] from Kwakiutl to Kwakwala and have added the proposed dialect names to the entry.  These changes will be published in the next edition of the Ethnologue.
