Vigorous, but each successive generation not as knowledgeable about their folksongs and folktales. All ages. Also use English [eng], Hindi [hin]. Also use Meitei [mni], at least passively.

Literacy rate in L2: 40% in Meitei [mni]: 10 to 40 year olds (2000 S. Towar). Only 2% can read Latin script. NT: 2002.
